Thank you Santa!

This year for Christmas, I got my favourite things – sleeping, shopping, cameras & fashion related nerd presents…..

Sleeping & shopping came in the form of pillows (it’s not as weird as you think) and money/gift cards. WIN. Sadly, I think it’s still not enough for this….

I got a camera too, and it’s DEADLY….it’s made of LEGO! It’s also a 2010 funsnap (i.e. it’s digital), which is good because I actually don’t have a working digital compact at the moment, and my 35mm keeps dying on me….

I was also given probably the most appropriate book anyone could ever buy me, and it’s one of the loveliest presents I’ve ever received. Because as much as I love fashion and stuff, I am a complete and utter nerd. Not deep down, but like properly totally nerdy. So my friend got me this wonderful little book called A Dialogue Between Fashion & Death. It was written in the early 1800′s and still as entertaining, relevant and thought provoking today as I’m sure it was then. And it’s about FASHUN! It’s part of the Penguin Great Ideas series, which are a bunch of really awesome short books, all of which are well worth a read. The same friend got me onto them a few years ago, and I’ve slowly been adding little stories by George Orwell and Sun Tzu and the like to my collection ever since. Oh, and the covers are lovely too!!

So, to conclude, thank you Santa and all my awesome friends :) Good work.

Penguins! I couldn't help myself....

Jesus Christ, Tom Ford.

Tom Ford is a ride of a man. A ridey Ridey Mc Riderson. Not only is he pretty hot for an almost 50 year old, but he has a singular, driven talent that is even sexier than his clothes. His (design) prowess is overwhelming, almost god like (Have you seen a Single Man? Just watch it. His attention to detail is scary). I remember being really confused when he decided to stop designing womenswear. Fair enough, he had a big fight with Gucci & their holding group Pinault-Printemps-Redoute, but I just couldn’t understand why someone so successful and crazy talented would want to totally stop, like proper cease & desist, it would be like….actually, I don’t have a good enough analogy. It’s just really dramatic.

Anyway, it seems like he misses us as much as we miss him, because this coming season he is FINALLY returning to womenswear. *HA!!! Like he misses the people who don’t buy his clothes….* And he’s keeping us all waiting until spring is sprung until he shows us what he’s got on offer. I would really like you to READ THIS ARTICLE, for two reasons. One, it has sneak peek preview pictures of the new Tom Ford Spring Summer 2011 womenswear collection (sorry I just enjoy saying that!). Which are effing amazing. Also, Tom (sorry, Mr. Ford) explains just why he is keeping everything so hush hush. It’s really interesting, and is pause for thought in the madness that is fashion seasons. Oh, and if you are in the mood for picking up French Vogue, now’s a good time, as La Ford is guest editor of the December issue. As you do. Did I mention he still has the sunglasses, menswear and perfume lines, as well as a new make up range (i’l have to do another post on that, his packaging and perfumes are my favourites!)? Oh, and a new film in the making. As you do. This man clearly hates sleeping.

I was browsing some old Vogue’s recently and came across this article, and I thought I would share it with you.

Marchesa 4eva

I LOVE Marchesa. Well, it’s love in a really fantasy sort of a way. I know that I do not have too many social functions that require a dress as lovely, and that’s leaving aside the price tag. But still. I mean come on. LOOK AT THEM! They are just the most beautiful constructions. Super feminine, but still sexy. When I win the lotto I’m gonna buy one for all my girls so we can just swan about in them. Maybe we will drink cups of tea, just to keep it real, you know…

Mary Katrantzou, woo woo woo!

Mary Katrantzou’s prints are as mad as a bag of nuts – she is bold, brash, unafraid and effing deadly. In four short seasons (that’s two short years in real time) she has established herself as a totally fresh talent, creating signature trompe l’oeil prints that are nothing short of delectible. She is one of this years recipients of the British Fashion Council’s Newgen award, recognising young design talent. Which is basically a pretty big deal. But then, if you ask me, she’s a pretty big deal, so I guess it figures.

To be honest, I could talk and talk but this one is for looking…
