I’m a MUG….

I have been shockingly bad about updating the blog for the last little while, as I was off doing an internship and generally not being near a computer with decent internet since mid July. Stinger for me if you haven’t even noticed…

I am heading into final year in 17 days (shudder) so I thought I would start off with something I am going to be getting very familiar with over the next couple of months…..my coffee cup. I love GIANT mugs, they are handy for caffeine addictions and they let you cool your beverage down to just the right temperature and then drink a bunch of coffee rather than having to make loads of cups and wait ages.

Also, it is my BIRTHDAY soon, and a mug is a warm hug of a cup. And seeing as I will have a severely diminished social live over the next while, well, HINT! I kind of want all of the below….

This list is in no way exhaustive, but you get the idea. I think the key to a good mug is function rather than pattern, size of handle, position of handle, circumference and depth all count more than the end pattern. Although ideally it should be both, there is nothing saying you can’t have your tea and drink it too. Sorry, couldn’t help it.

I will leave you with Dieter Ram’s rules for design, as featured on one of the mugs.

Good design is innovative.
Good design makes a product useful.
Good design is aesthetic.
Good design makes a product understandable.
Good design is unobtrusive.
Good design is honest.
Good design is long-lasting.
Good design is thorough down to the last detail.
Good design is environmentally friendly.
Good design is as little design as possible.
